How do I play the games at PokerCITY and what are the rules? The Basics - Poker Hand RankingsOriginsThe beginnings of poker are lost somewhere in the mists of time but it probably was brought to the United States in the early 1800’s. Earlier games that probably influenced the game included German pochen and French poque but by the time it reached the U.S. it was recognizable as poker although played with only a twenty card deck (of Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks and Tens). Somewhere in the 1830’s players began to use the full fifty-two card deck and the rest is history. Poker hands always consist of five cards; even when more are dealt only five are counted. In general the higher ranking hand wins unless you are playing hi-lo games in which case the lowest hand and the highest would split the pot. All suits (Spades, Diamonds, Clubs and Hearts) are considered equal to each other. Royal Flush - Five cards in the same suit. Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten of Spades, Diamonds, Clubs or Hearts make up the famed royal flush. If there are two or more royal flushes in the same deal then . . . actually I don’t know what would happen. The odds of getting a royal flush are1 in 649,739. Straight Flush - Five cards in the same suit in sequence. Nine, Eight, Seven, Six and Five in Spades, Diamonds, Clubs or Hearts make up a straight flush. If there are two or more straight flushes in the same deal then the one with the highest top card wins. The odds of getting a straight flush are approximately 1 in 72,192. Four of a Kind – Four cards in a hand all with the same rank. So four Tens of the different suits would be four of a kind. If there are two or more four of a kind hands in the same deal then the one made up of the higher value cards wins. The odds of getting a four of a kind are 1 in 4,164. Full House – A full house is three of a kind combined with a pair. So three Kings and two Jacks would be a full house. In the case of two or more full houses in the same deal then the one with the highest three cards would win. The odds of getting a full house are 1 in 693. Flush – Five cards of the same suit. Three, Eight, Nine, Jack and Queen of Spades, Diamonds, Clubs or Hearts would be a flush. If there are two or more flushes in the same deal then the one with highest top card wins, if that card is a tie then the second highest card is considered and so on. The odds of getting a flush are 1 in 508. Straight – Five cards which are in sequence but not in the same suit. A Ten of Hearts, Nine of Diamonds, Eight of Spades, Seven of Clubs and Six of Diamonds would be a straight. If there are two or more hands with a straight in a single deal then the hand with the highest top card wins. The odds of getting a straight are 1 in 254. Three of a Kind – Three cards of the same value. So a Six of Hearts, a Six of Diamonds and a Six of Clubs would be three of a kind. If there are two or more three of a kind hands in a single deal then the one with the highest value wins. In community card games like Texas Hold’Em there can be two hands of the same three of a kind, in that case the hand with the highest fourth card will win, if that is the same then the fifth card should be considered. The odds of getting three of a kind are 1 in 46. Two Pair– Two cards with the same rank and two more cards with the same rank. Therefore a Four of Diamonds and a Four of Spades combined with a Six of Diamonds and a Six of Hearts would be two pair. If there are two or more two pair hands in a deal then the player with the highest pair wins, if that pair is the same in both hands then the second pair is considered and if that is the same then the fifth card is considered. The odds of getting a two pair hand are 1 in 20. Single Pair – Two cards of the same rank. So a Three of Diamonds and a Three of Clubs would be a pair. If two or more hands have the same pair in a single deal then the third card should be considered and so on. The odds of getting a pair are 1 in 2.4. High Card – Just like it sounds. No one has anything so the highest card wins at the showdown. How do I start playing at community poker tables (Ring Games)?Playing at PokerCITY tables is simple.
